distinguished visitors


Speakeasy Toastmasters were joined by members from Tralee Toastmasters for a joint meeting this week.   Maire Fitzpatrick, President extended a warm welcome to our visitors from the Kingdom.    Claire O’Connell was Toastmaster for the night.  Vicky McCarthy from Tralee was Topicsmaster for the meeting and had us on our toes asking the audience did they know the origins of popular phrases such as “For Pete’s sake”and “Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”  Anna Dokurno from Tralee Toastmasters took on the job of Timekeeper.

The first speaker of the evening was Michael Cronin with a speech titled “Divine Intervention.” Michael gave a humorous account of his time as an Altar boy and of the first time he read at Mass.    Therese O’Reilly evaluated Michel’s speech.

Next up was Anthony Garvey, from Tralee Toastmasters with a speech which fell under the public relations manual project speaking under fire.   Anthony delivered a controversial proposition and answered hostile questions on same. Bobby Buckley evaluated the speech.

Anne Buckley was next to the lectern with a speech titled “Thanks for the memories.”  Anne related how being a member and past President of Toastmasters has been an enjoyable and learning experience.   Dermot Kennedy evaluated Anne’s speech.

The final speaker for the evening was Michael McEgan from Tralee Toastmasters.   Michael gave an interpretive reading  from the novel “All Quiet in the Western Front..”  It related the story of a German soldier returning on leave from World War 1. Pat Sexton evaluated Michael’s  reading.

Tony O’Regan was General Evaluator for the night and thanked the visiting club for joining us for the meeting.
Our next meeting is on Thursday  9th February  at 8 p.m. in the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow.   All are welcome.    Guests are never asked to speak.

Note for the Diary:   Theme Night Thursday 23rd February – a 60s Theme. So members get the costumes ready!
