Second Last Meeting

SPEAKEASY   TOASTMASTERS
This week’s meeting was in two parts. Brendan Foley was Toastmaster for the meeting.  Verna Byrne was Topicsmasters for the first time and got a great response to topics “Have you a favourite childhood memory?” and “If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?”  Helsa Giles was Timekeeper and Michael Cronin was General Evaluator.

First speaker on the night was David Buckley with an Icebreaker Speech titled “We Remember.”   Bridie O’Connell evaluated David’s Speech and complemented him on an excellent speech and wished him well in future speeches.

Mary Moynihan was next to the lectern with a speech titled “The “Illusion of Freedom,”    Mary gave a very powerful presentation on the different types of freedom : National Freedom., Political Freedom , Individual Freedom and Spiritual Freedom and how fragile freedom can be.  Liam Jones evaluated Mary’s speech.

The final speaker was Jason Fitzgerald with a speech titled “The Big B”   Jason outlined how Brexit will affect the Irish agriculture/food industry..  Bobby Buckley evaluated Jason’s Speech.

The second part of the Meeting was our Annual General Meeting.  Marie Fitzpatrick,   outgoing President, thanked all members for the excellent speeches throughout the year.  She also thanked the outgoing Committee for their hard work..
The  Officers elected  for the 2017/2018 Season are as follows:

President:   Helsa Giles.     Secretary Theresa O’Reilly.  
Treasurer:  Don McSweeney     .E.V.P.  Anne O’Donovan
PRO  Pat Sexton.       Membership Officer  Michael Conin
Sgt at Arms    Verna Byrne,  Mary Moynihan, Marie Connolly and Marie Fitzpatrick.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 18th May at 8 p.m. in the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow.  So come along and join us.   Guests are never asked to speak.
