Speakeasy Toastmasters held their regular meeting on March 16th. After Club President Angela Sheehan’s introductory remarks, Marie Fitzpatrick took control of the meeting as Toastmaster. Marie chaired the meeting in her typically capable and friendly manner. Jerry O’ Callaghan entertained the audience with his amusing selection of topics while Pat Sexton was General Evaluator.
The first speech of the evening was delivered by Helen O’ Sullivan, who completed the stage 3 project from the basic manual. Helen’s speech described how personal goals can be achieved by repetitive action over 21 days. The next speech was delivered by Barry McCarthy who completed the reading out loud project from the Speciality Speeches manual. Barry read the opening speech from a Dean Koontz novel. Following Barry was Loretto Barry who completed the bringing history to life project from the Storytelling Manual. Loretto described the life and times of Douglas Hyde and the development of the Irish Language revival movement.
Loretto was then followed by Jerry Mulcahy, who completed a project from the Humorous Speeches Manual. Jerry’s speech described the sectors of society whose livelihood depend on drink. Finally Ray Ryan Jnr delivered an education session which described how to create the best club climate.
