‘What is your favourite food?’ was one of the topics given by Maire Boyle in her role as topicsmaster at the clubs last meeting which drew many responses from the audience. Maire since recently joining the club has delivered two wonderful speeches and this was first time taking on the topicsmaster role. Her well thought out topics really engaged those present which led to a very enjoyable session.
Also at our last meeting there were two other speeches delivered. Margaret O’Regan entertained the audience with a very funny speech with a title ’Because you are worth it’. David Roche as her speech evaluator gave equally entertaining feedback to the speaker. Pat Sexton followed with a very informative speech on a number of songs by Bob Dylan. Tom O’Connor gave Pat an excellent evaluation. Congratulations are also in order for Pat as he recently won the Division Final of the evaluation contest and will now go on to compete in the Ireland and England Final in the middle of May.
The clubs next meeting will take place on Thursday May 1st. The meeting will commence at 8pm in the Hibernian Hotel Mallow. Guests are always most welcome and will not be asked to speak. A Special Award
It was a special night for club member Liam Flynn at the clubs last meeting as he was presented with a special award. It was recognition from toastmaster’s world headquarters that he has given thirty speeches since joining the club. Liam used the occasion to give a very eloquent acceptance speech in which he thanked the club for all it has given him and he encouraged all members to try and get more people involved in the club. Liam’s speech was evaluated by Cait Murray.
Toastmaster Bill Martin then gave a very educational and informative speech. He had club members present actively involved in the delivery of his presentation. He taught those present a method of remembering a random list of objects. Members were unsure at first but by the end of his delivery we were all converted to the system developed by a Domnic O’Brien. Angela Sheehan gave Bill a very helpful evaluation.

Area Final Success
The club members who went forward to represent the club at the recent Area Final did the club proud with their fine performances. Deidre Linehan and Pat sexton competed in the speech contest while Pat sexton also represented the club in the evaluation contest along with Ray Ryan.
The final was hosted by the Failte Club in Charleville and the members made the visiting toastmasters from the other clubs in the area feel most welcome. The contest was chaired by the Area Governor Anne Buckley and the topics master for the evening was Mary Buckley.
Those present on the evening were treated to an excellent selection of speeches on a wide variation of topics. Competition was keen but the winner came from the host club. Geraldine Conway the president of the Failte club was a worthy winner. Pat Sexton of speakeasy was second with a fine speech.
Pat fared one position better in the evaluation contest as he took place first place in what was a very tight contest between the eight contestants. Ray Ryan of the speakeasy club also put in a very strong performance and finished in second place. Pat Sexton will now go forward to represent the Area at the Division final.

Poetry and Motion
These were the themes of two of the speeches at the clubs last meeting. Maire Boyle delivering her second speech spoke about the great poets and how they were also ordinary people with ordinary lives like all of us. It was an excellent speech which had the audience captivated by her use of words. Maire Lynes as her evaluator thanked Maire for her speech and also gave her some excellent tips on how to further improve her delivery for future speeches.
David Roche followed with a speech about his love of formula one car racing. He educated the audience regarding the sport with his facts and figures including a way to experience down force when we were driving home from the meeting. Bill Martin gave David a very supportive evaluation. The third speaker of the evening was Angela Sheehan. Angela gave a very entertaining interpretative reading from a book titled ’Norwegian by Night’ by Derek B Miller. Angela’s speech was evaluated by Bridie O’Connell.
