A Taste of Home
Maire Boyle delivered an excellent first speech at our last meeting titled ’A taste of home’. She captured the audience’s attention with a story about her mother who originally came from the United States and how she always maintains the bond with her place of birth. Maire’s evaluator Tony O’Regan complemented her on a very strong first speech and encouraged her follow with another speech soon.
Toastmaster Bill Martin entertained and inspired the audience with a speech that was full of conviction. It was very appropriate for the time of the year as it was about goal setting and on how to keep focused in order to achieve your goals. Anne Buckley gave Bill a very helpful and motivating evaluation.
Speakeasy Club members are going on tour next week. The night of Monday 27th will involve a joint meeting with the Failte Club in Charleville. The following night a joint meeting will take place with the Galtee’s Club in Mitchelstown.
The clubs next meeting will take place on this Thursday the 6th February. Everybody is welcome to attend. The meeting will begin at 8pm and finish at 10pm in the Hibernian Hotel and guests present will not be asked to speak. A Night At The Theatre
Club members had a great night out last Friday with a trip to the Everyman Theatre to see Oscar Wilde’s ’An Ideal Husband’. The humour throughout the play had everyone laughing and it made for a very enjoyable evening of entertainment. The members are looking forward to our next night out.
At the clubs last meeting two other members of the club also gave speeches. Ronan Condon gave a very thought provoking speech on how do successful sports people have that extra drive to try that little bit extra in order to win. He gave great examples throughout the speech and also the science behind it. Maire Fitzpatrick gave the final speech of the evening with a very educational presentation on how members can help other club members improve their speaking skills by effective evaluations. She felt it was very important that members should always evaluate to motivate and to give one or two suggestions on how the speaker could improve their next speech.
The clubs next meeting will take place on this Thursday the 23rd January. Everybody is welcome to attend. The meeting will begin at 8pm and finish at 10pm in the Hibernian Hotel and guests present will not be asked to speak. New Members for New Year
The club had its first meeting of 2014 last Thursday night. There was a great crowd in attendance with up to thirty people present, six of whom were very welcome guests. There were four prepared speeches on the night and also a very interesting topics session which was chaired by Claire O’Connell. When the meeting concluded two of the guests decided to join the club and one of which will give her first speech at the next meeting.
Sean Corcoran returned to the club after a break and his vast experience in toastmasters could be seen in the way he chaired the meeting.
The first speech of the evening was given by Rona Coughlan. It was a very informative speech on how we should watch our language when we speak to people who are autistic. Bill Martin gave a concise and motivating evaluation on Rona’s speech. Pat Sexton followed with a speech titled ’Winners and Losers’. His speech told us as a result of the Celtic tiger the country has lost a great number of local newspapers and this is a big loss for local communities. Marie Lyons gave Pat a very helpful evaluation of his speech.
